FIH Hockey World League / 2014-2015
The second edition of the Hockey World League started on June 21, 2014 with a women's tournament in Singapore and ended with the women's final in Rosario . Argentina and Australia won the women’s race.
format
The format was modified in the second edition of the World League.
- Round 1 was played in local tournaments as before. The number of tournaments, participants and qualifiers for the next round varied.
- Round 2 consisted of three tournaments with eight participants each, who played in two groups. The nations in positions 12 to 19 in the world rankings were directly qualified for this round. The respective hosts of a tournament also take part.
- Round 3 - The nations ranked 1 to 11 in the world rankings only entered the competition here. Two tournaments (semi-finals) with ten participants each were played. Initially, five were played in two groups, followed by placement games. The two semi-finals were also the qualifying tournaments for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro .
- Round 4 concluded the competition. In a tournament with eight participants, everyone was played against everyone in two groups . After the group matches, the quarter-finals were played: the first in one group played against the fourth in the other group, the second in a group against the third in the other group. The winners of the quarterfinals played in the knockout system (semifinals and finals) for places one to four. The losers were classified on the basis of the group results: the two best played for fifth and sixth place, the other two for seventh and eighth place.
Special point rule
In rounds 1 and 2 of the Hockey World League there was a special point rule for the group games: in the event of a tie there was a penalty shootout. The winner received two points, the loser one. As before, there were three points for a win in the game.
