The FOB SWATH 3 (ex. Sea Gale ) is an offshore utility in SWATH design. The ship sails under the flag of Denmark. The shipowner is Offshore Windservice. The ship is operated by the Danish company Odfjell Wind, a utility company in the wind, gas and oil industries.

The ship is used to bring workers and materials to offshore wind farms .

technology

The FOB SWATH 3 belongs to the FOB SWATH class from the manufacturer Danish Yachts. The hull is made from carbon and fiberglass materials.

The ship is designed for high-speed trips on the open sea. The fuselage can be lowered by flooding the fuselage parts when mooring, which provides a quiet working platform.

Fire on board 2014

On the morning of May 20, 2014, a fire broke out on board the ship, which was then operated under the name Sea Gale . On a lake position north of Heligoland , fire broke out in the engine room. The Sea Gale was on the way to supply an offshore wind farm.

The Cuxhaven accident command took over the command. A fire-fighting unit from the Cuxhaven professional fire brigade was flown to the damaged ship by helicopter and was able to fight the fire successfully. Several rescue ships were on site around noon: the multi-purpose ship Mellum , the frigates Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Hamburg, and the marine tanker Spessart .

The three crew members of the Sea Gale were uninjured. The cause of the fire was unclear.
