On Sunday March 29, 2009, the ship was attacked with small arms guns from a boat in the Gulf of Aden area by a group of seven pirates. The escort returned the attack with small arms. During the attack, the commander called other ships for help, including the German frigate Rheinland-Pfalz . Furthermore, the US dropship Boxer , the Spanish frigate Victoria and the Dutch frigate De Zeven Provinciën came to the area of the attack.

All seven pirates were captured by a boarding team from Rhineland-Palatinate and imprisoned on the frigate.
