history

The place arose not far from the hermitage Eremo dei Santi Giorgio e Galgano a Valbona , which was founded in 1214 by the Augustinian order on land made available by Trassilico (now part of Gallicano ). The place itself grew strongly in the 14th century when blacksmiths (Italian: Fabbri ) from Bergamo opened their workshops in the village. A 14th century bridge over the Turrite Cava in Fabbriche di Vallico used to form the customs between the possessions of Modena and Lucca .

From the unification of Italy until the 20th century, the places of Fabbriche di Vallico belonged to the municipality of Trassilico and were subordinate to the province of Massa-Carrara . In 1923 Trassilico was annexed to the province of Lucca. The independent municipality of Fabbriche di Vallico was created in 1947 when Trassilico was replaced with the towns north of the Turrite Cava. Since the middle of the 19th century the place has steadily decreased in population (1830: 2573 inhabitants; 1951: 1213 inhabitants; 1991: 591 inhabitants). On January 1, 2014, the place was merged with the neighboring municipality of Vergemoli to form the new municipality of Fabbriche di Vergemoli. In the referendum on April 21 and 22, 2013 in Fabbriche di Vallico, 88.97% (44.55% turnout) voted in favor of the union. The town hall seat of the new municipality is Fabbriche di Vallico. The town hall is located at Località Campaccio 2.
