Fabian Malbon

Sir Fabian Michael Malbon (born October 1, 1946 in Southsea , Hampshire ) is a former British Vice Admiral of the Royal Navy , who was Lieutenant Governor of Guernsey between 2005 and 2011 .

Life

Malbon trained as a naval officer after attending Brighton, Hove and Sussex Grammar School and entered the Royal Navy in 1965 . In the following years he was employed as a naval officer, for example as the commander of the frigate HMS Torquay and between 1987 and 1988 as the commander of the frigate HMS Brave . At the same time he was the captain of the sea between March 1987 and August 1988 in personal union of the 9th Frigate Squadron (9th Frigate Squadron) . He then took over in 1988 the post of director for conditions of naval service in the naval staff. In 1992 he succeeded Captain John Tolhurst as commander of the aircraft carrier HMS Invincible and was responsible for air-to-air missions, air support and photo reconnaissance over Bosnia and Herzegovina during the Bosnian War until 1993 .

After further assignments, Rear Admiral Malbon succeeded Rear Admiral Alan West as the Office of Naval Secretary in January 1996 . In this capacity he was responsible for the appointment of naval officers and the recruitment of naval personnel until his replacement by Rear Admiral Jeremy de Halpert in December 1998. Most recently, he replaced Vice Admiral in January 1999 from Vice Admiral Jeremy Blackham as Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Fleet . He held this post until May 2001 and was then replaced by Vice Admiral Jonathon Band . At the same time he was director of the Royal Naval Film Corporation from January 6, 1999 to October 30, 2001 . On December 30, 2000, he was made Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire (KBE) and has been named "Sir" ever since. In 2002 he retired from active military service.

On October 18, 2005, Malbon succeeded former Lieutenant General John Paul Foley as Lieutenant Governor of Guernsey . He held this office until February 23, 2011, before being replaced on April 15, 2011 by the former Air Marshal Peter Brett Walker . During this time he was 2007 Knight of Grace of the Order of Saint John (KStJ). He was also active as Chairman of the Trustees of the Union Jack Club and as Honorary Chairman of the Weymouth Leviathan , the maritime literature festival in Weymouth .

His marriage to Sue Malbon resulted in three sons.
