Fabian Dennis Villmeter (born May 29, 1980 in Hofheim am Taunus ) is a German basketball coach .

career

Villmeters Heimatverein is the TV Hofheim. Due to a cartilage damage in his knee, he ended his playing career early and became a coach. In 1998 he moved from Hofheim to TV 1862 Langen , where he coached youth teams and later also the second men's team of the "Giraffes". In the period from 2002 to 2006, Villmeter completed a degree in business administration at the Fernuniversität Hagen and Wiesbaden University of Applied Sciences , after having previously completed an apprenticeship as an industrial clerk. Between 2004 and 2006, in addition to his duties in Langen, he was the selection trainer of the Hessian Basketball Association.

Before the 2008/09 season he was the head coach of Langen's men's team, which he coached for two years in the 2nd Bundesliga ProA and after relegation from 2010/11 to 2012 in the 2nd Bundesliga ProB . In addition, from 2008 to 2015 he was the sporting director of the basketball part-time boarding school in Langen.

From the summer of 2011 Villmeter, who has had the A-trainer license of the German Basketball Federation since 2007 , took part in the trainer training program of the European basketball association and received the FIBA ​​trainer license in July 2013.

After he gave up his job as a men's coach in Langen in 2012, he concentrated again on working in the youth sector. In the 2012/13 season he was the coach of the U16 team of the "Giraffes" in the youth basketball league and led the team into the final tournament for the German championship, ie among the best four teams in the country. From 2013 to 2015 he worked as the coach of the U19 team in the youth basketball league : Under his leadership, the team qualified for the NBBL finals for the German championship and was eliminated in the semifinals against the eventual title winner Alba Berlin . Villmeter was then named the best NBBL coach of the 2013/14 season. After the end of the 2014/15 season, Villmeter left Langen, during his time at the Hessian club he promoted future Bundesliga and national players such as Robin Benzing , Patrick Heckmann and Philipp Neumann .

In May 2015 Villmeter was introduced as the new head coach of the second division club FC Baunach , the youth development team of the Bundesliga club Brose Bamberg . At the end of December 2017, Villmeter in Baunach was released. At the time of the split, the team was in last place in the 2nd Bundesliga ProA with one win and 14 losses.

National team

In 2013 Villmeter was the assistant coach of the German U15 national team, in 2014 and 2015 he was an assistant coach on the staff of the German U16 team and took part in the 2014 and 2015 European championships. In 2016 he was the assistant coach of the U20 national team, including at the European Championships in Finland, where the Germans reached the semi-finals. In the summer of 2018, Villmeter worked as an assistant coach in Germany's senior national team. On October 1, 2018, he was hired as a full-time junior national coach at the German Basketball Association.
