Patrick Heckmann (born February 27, 1992 in Mainz , Rhineland-Palatinate ) is a German basketball player . He is under contract at Ratiopharm Ulm in the basketball league and plays in the German national team .
Career
The 1.96 m tall and 89 kg heavy Heckmann began his basketball career at ASC Theresianum Mainz and went through all youth teams from U14 to U18. At the age of 15, he made the leap into the first team for which he was active in the 1st regional league. Over the years, Heckmann, who is characterized above all by his game intelligence and versatility, has developed into one of the team's top performers.
In the 2008-09 season, Heckmann went to Cheyenne Mountain High School in Colorado Springs ( United States ) for a year , where he graduated from high school . After his return to Mainz, he led the NBBL team of the ASC Theresianum Mainz (later SG Rheinhessen ) to promotion to the NBBL and directly into the playoffs in their first year. Heckmann was elected MVP of the league after the season and was the best scorer with 23.6 points.
During the summer break, Heckmann moved to TV Langen in the 2nd Bundesliga ProB . In the 2010/11 season he scored an average of 12.0 points for the team, making him the third best basket hunter on his team.
In his NBBL final season 2010/11, Heckmann averaged 24.2 points and 9.5 rebounds and underlined his all-round skills with 2.2 assists, 1.7 steals and 1.5 blocks.
Heckmann had a large share in the best result (fifth place) of a German U20 national team at the European Championships in Bilbao , where he scored 8.7 points on average and when this success was repeated the following year, where he scored 7.3 points achieved per game. At the U18 European Championship 2010 in Vilnius , Lithuania , he was the top scorer of the German team with an average of 12.3 points. His best performance in the national jersey he set up at this tournament with 27 points against Serbia.
During the summer break 2011, Heckmann moved to the NCAA college league at Boston College in Chestnut Hill (Massachusetts) . On November 25, 2011, he set his personal NCAA record of 32 points in the game against UC Riverside. Heckmann finished his first season in the NCAA with an average of 8.3 points.
On May 22, 2012, Heckmann was appointed to the senior national team for the first time by national coach Svetislav Pešić and made his debut on August 2 in a friendly against Iran, in which he scored five points in five minutes. Previously, he had confirmed the European Championship result from the previous year with the U-20 national team and again finished fifth at the tournament in Slovenia.
Heckmann was a member of the Boston College team until the end of the 2014/15 season. During his four-year membership in the university team, he played 118 games and achieved an average of 7.1 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.7 assists.
For the 2015/2016 season, Heckmann changes to the German champion Brose Baskets Bamberg . In Bamberg he played in the Euroleague for the first time and also won the German championship in 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 as an important role player for the team. He missed parts of the 2017/18 game year due to a shoulder operation.
At the end of the 2018/19 game year, Heckmann and the Bambergers split up, he switched to Ratiopharm Ulm .
