Vegetative characteristics

The narrow-leaved thread gentian grows as an annual herbaceous plant and reaches heights of 2 to 10 centimeters. The stems are green, brownish in the lower area. The against-constantly arranged in a basal rosette leaves are simple.

Generative characteristics

The flowering period extends from mid-July to October. The hermaphrodite flowers are fourfold. The four yellow petals are fused and arranged in a wheel shape.

Occurrence and endangerment

Cicendia filiformis is widespread in Europe and northwest Africa.

In Germany comes Cicendia filiformis very rare. In 1996 it was classified in the Red List of Endangered Plant Species in Germany in Category 1 = “threatened with complete destruction”. It is not particularly protected by the Federal Species Protection Ordinance (BArtSchV).

Site conditions

Cicendia filiformis grows in moist, nutrient-poor, slightly peaty sand or sandy “heather soil” , which is completely flooded with largely clear water when the water level is high in winter, while it falls completely dry in summer. The thread gentian can be found along the edges of ponds in sand pits and quarries.

Plant community

The thread gentian often grows in association with the dwarf ( Radiola linoides ), the late yellow sedge ( Carex viridula ), or the bristly scaled ledge ( Isolepis setacea ). Other accompanying flora is often the round-leaved sundew ( Drosera rotundifolia ) and the mean sundew ( Drosera intermedia ). Because of similar site conditions, the thread gentian can also be found together with cartilage (Illecebrum verticillatum), and deer jump ( Corrigiola litoralis ).

Taxonomy

It was first published in 1753 under the name ( Basionym ) Gentiana filiformis by Carl von Linné in Species Plantarum , 1st edition, p. 231. The new combination to Cicendia filiformis (L.) Delarbre took place in 1800 by Antoine Delarbre .
