The Falkenmühle is a historic mill in the southern Wasgau , as the southern part of the Palatinate Forest is also called together with the northern part of the Vosges . It is located directly on the Wieslauter in the Rumbach district , but in the immediate vicinity of the settlement area of the Bundenthal community .

history

She was allegedly in the 13th century on the right bank of the Wieslauter and was initially the name Wegelnburgmühle because they are owned by a few kilometers distant Wegelnburg was. The mill has been known by its current name since the sale of the mill to Bernhard Falk von Falkenstein in 1603. During the Thirty Years' War , the Palatinate War of Succession and several fires, it was damaged and destroyed many times, and conversions followed. Since 1760 it has been in the possession of the current owner family, who in 1865 also acquired the Waldenburgische Mühle on the opposite bank from the former property of the Speyer Monastery. The grain mill on the right bank was in operation until 1969, the sawmill on the left bank was in operation until 2000. Today there are two guest houses and holiday apartments on the grounds of the Falkenmühle, some of which also deal with the history of the mill.

Mill system

To the right of the Wieslauter on the Rumbacher district are the building of the grain mill , the house of the former miller and several other restored historical buildings, some as half-timbered houses. The building of the grain mill, which was last partially rebuilt at the beginning of the 19th century after a fire, is the only mill in Wasgau that still has the complete grinding technology. All houses today contain holiday flats or apartments.

To the left of the Wieslauter in Bundenthal is the former Waldenburg mill, which was last used as a sawmill and is now part of the Falkenmühle. The complete sawing technology with gate is still available. Hydropower has been used to generate electricity since 1908 using a Francis turbine . A historic Zuppinger water wheel with a diameter of 6 m is still there.
