life and work

Falko Marx is considered one of the great eclecticists among the goldsmiths of designer jewelry.

Marx studied at the Cologne factory schools (1961–1965) with the goldsmith Elisabeth Treskow . After studying in Amsterdam , he opened a studio in Cologne.

His works often incorporate unconventional materials. In addition to precious metals and gemstones, archaeological finds, objects of everyday life or banal materials such as printed tin cans also appear in his work. By including water in rings and bracelets, he made movement a theme in his jewelry.

In 1990 Marx received the Herbert Hofmann Prize . As part of an exhibition at the MAKK , Cologne in 2009, a monograph was published which documents around sixty works by him.

Marx's work can be seen in important collections including the Helen Williams Drutt Collection, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston , the Dannerstiftung's collection at the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich and the Museum of Applied Arts in Cologne.
