The Family Park in St. Margarethen in Burgenland is the largest with around 145,000 m² of Austria leisure and family park . It was founded in 1968 as a family business called " Märchenwald ". The amusement park has had its current name since 2015. Filippo the tomcat is the park's mascot. The Familypark is one of the leading companies in Burgenland .

history

Erwin Müller, the father of the current owner Mario Müller, moved from Vorarlberg to St. Margarethen in Burgenland in 1965 . He initially worked as a stonemason in the Roman quarry , where he created, among other things, the life-size sculpture of St. George , which is now located in the entrance area of the park.

Since fairy tale parks were being created all over Europe at that time, in which visitors could admire different scenes from famous stories, he began to work on the first fairy tale characters in 1966 and in the same year opened a fairy tale forest with an area of 1500 m² in Schützen am Gebirge .

When the lease was not extended, the park moved to its current location in St. Margarethen, where it has been continuously expanded since then. In 1970 the zoo opened with goats , ponies , donkeys and other small animals .

In 1984 Erwin Müller retired. The management of the park was taken over by his son Mario Müller, who still runs the park together with his wife Ulrike Müller. From this point on, further investments were made in the park, the infrastructure expanded, the zoo and gastronomy expanded and the fairy tale forest renamed the fairy tale park and zoo. In the zoo there are wild boars and ibexes as well as exotic animals such as monkeys, wallabies and llamas.

At the beginning of the 1990s, the first rides were purchased. The balloon carousel, “truck convoy” and “nautic jet” went into operation and a cable car has been running through the fairy tale park ever since. In the following years, the park was expanded annually with new attractions.

Performances by international artists take place in a show tent. The dogs of “Ponsa's Poodle Gang” inspire the guests as well as the clown “Daly” or “Vivas”, blowing bubbles and acrobatics.

At the end of the 1990s, the fairy tale park reached a size of around 80,000 m². In 1999 the park was renamed again to Märchenpark Neusiedlersee. In June 2004 the new theme world “Filippo's Adventure Island” opens. This made the park 20,000 m² larger and offered numerous new adventures in a Mediterranean setting. In 2008 the park celebrated its 40th anniversary. On the occasion of the festival year, the family roller coaster “Götterblitz” and the round trip attraction Römerturm were presented to the guests. In order to express the wide range of offers in the park, the Neusiedlersee fairy tale park became the Neusiedlersee family park at the beginning of the 2010 season. In addition to other rides, the second family rollercoaster opened in 2013 with the “Rattenmühle”.

In spring 2019 it became known that the Müller family, who owned the company, sold the company to the French investor Compagnie des Alpes , which is one of the operators of amusement parks and ski resorts.
