The fanfare and minstrel march of the city of Büdingen e. V. is a fanfare and minstrel band founded on March 28, 1960 in the legal form of a registered association with its seat in Büdingen . The association can show various national and international successes and titles.

history

A few days after the constitution on March 28, 1960, the fanfare and musician's procession began to practice and the first instruments were purchased. The lively interest gave the association rapid growth, so that after just eight weeks the association was able to gain over 38 active, mostly young members. The city of Büdingen supported the acquisition of instruments and uniforms .

In May 1961 the fanfare procession took part in its first competition in Groß-Gerau . The musicians wore red and white uniforms. The number of public appearances grew steadily in the following months. In 1963 historical uniforms were purchased with the support of the State of Hesse, the magistrate and a fundraising campaign. The draft of the Landsknecht uniforms came from the Büdingen honorary citizen Martin Bauss based on historical Büdingen Landsknecht uniforms.

In 1963, the fanfare procession took first place in the fanfare special class in the Rhein-Main-Halle Wiesbaden and won the Hessen Cup. Over 100 first and second placements followed, including the silver cup of the Hessian Prime Minister Dr. Georg August Zinn , the Deutsche Lufthansa Cup , the European Cup for the Fanfare Special Class 1965 and the Silver Cup of the City of Cologne for the best stage play on the occasion of the European Cup competition.

In 1964 the fanfares expanded the instrument set to include tenor horns , baritone and bass fanfares , all natural instruments without valves. The then trainer and staff leader Hans Geyer (1960–1980) composed and arranged pieces of music for this new instrumental line-up that were adopted by many fanfare groups, such as the "rumba", which is still in the repertoire of many music associations today. The new instruments enabled the performance potential to be significantly expanded, for example to include South American rhythms and concert music.

In order to maintain their top position, show elements were also rehearsed in 1965. The fanfare procession was invited to some football stadiums to put on a music show on the sports field at halftime. As a leader of ideas in the development of fanfare trains, he was one of the first trains to incorporate a women's group (twirling group) into the show elements.

During the 1966 World Music Festival in Kerkrade , Holland , the fanfare and minstrel march won the gold medal in the first division.

In the same year, the Fanfarenzug put more emphasis on the promotion of young talent, with which the musical supply of the senior train was secured.

Encouraged by the participation in foreign music competitions, the idea was born to hold a large international music event in Büdingen, which succeeded immediately thanks to the good organizational talent of the board of directors at the time.

In 1967 the association organized the first international music competitions for the Prize of Nations, the golden Untertor . Over 2500 musicians and 5000 visitors took part in this very high level international comparison. ZDF recorded the performances and broadcast 60 minutes of them as a Sunday concert.

In 1969 the second international music competition followed with participants from Spain , England , Holland , Belgium and Austria as well as from all parts of the Federal Republic.

For the events that followed in 1972 and 1976, the group of participants expanded to include musicians from Italy , Portugal , Sweden and Czechoslovakia . A total of around 3,000 musicians took part in the competition.

In 1980 the largest international competition in Hesse was held in Büdingen. Over 3,400 musicians from eleven nations accepted the invitation.

In the next few years many appearances at home and abroad followed. Due to the aging of the active players, the fanfare train had to significantly reduce its gaming operations in the mid-1990s. It wasn't until 1997 that some players took up the idea of using youth work with a drum band to fill the fanfare and minstrel parade with life again.

The Drumband Büdingen was formed in 1997 after an almost 10-year break from playing former musicians of the Büdingen fanfare group, in particular by Andreas Stolle and Frank Scheller. At the same time, the youth training began, which is enjoying great interest and is still a focus of the drum band's musical work today.

After just a few years, the drum band was able to enjoy the titles of German and Hessen Masters .
