FBK games
The FBK Games (full name Fanny Blankers-Koen Games ) are an internationally important athletics meeting that has been held annually in Hengelo in the Netherlands since 1981 . It has been part of the World Challenge since 2010 . The event is named after Fanny Blankers-Koen , one of the most successful athletes in history. The venue is the Fanny Blankers Koen Stadium . Several world records in athletics were set in Hengelo, most notably by Haile Gebrselassie .
name of the event
Launched on July 6, 1981 as Fanny Blankers-Koen Games , the event was called Adriaan Paulen Memorial in memory of the former Dutch athlete and IAAF President Adriaan Paulen from 1987 to 2000 . On the occasion of the IAAF's election of Fanny Blankers-Koen as athlete of the century , the original name was reverted to in 2001. From 2003 to 2007 the official name of the meeting was THALES FBK-Games after the main sponsor, the French Thales Group . Since 2008, after the sponsorship contract expired, the event has been called FBK Games.
