Fatehgarh ( Hindi : फ़तेहगढ़ , Urdu : فتح گڑھ; Fatehgaṛh [ faˈt̪eːhɡʌɽʱ ]) is a garrison town in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh with about 15,000 inhabitants. It is the administrative seat of the Farrukhabad district .

The city is located on the right bank of the Ganges River near the city of Farrukhabad . The name Fatehgarh is derived from a name given to an ancient fortress. The city has no substantial industry. However, it houses an important barracks of the Indian army in the form of the "Rajput Regiment Center". Several regiments of the Indian army are stationed here. There is also a famous temple of the god Hanuman in the city .

During the British rule over the Indian subcontinent there was a garrison in Fatehgarh. During the Indian uprising of 1857 the garrison was besieged and captured (see Siege of Fatehgarh ). Part of the British and Eurasian population of Fatehgarh fled to Kanpur , which, however, was also besieged . The surviving refugees - mostly women and children - were locked up in Bibighar along with the women who survived the Kanpur massacre and murdered on July 16, 1857.
