history

People lived in the area around Fatschenbrunn as early as the Neolithic around 4000 years ago. This is evidenced by a hammer that the farmer Albin Moser found while plowing in the Long Wall parcel and which can be seen in the Museum Schloss Oberschwappach .

For a long time, the life of the rural population was characterized by poverty. In 1966 a headline read: The misery of Fatschenbrunn, the poorest village in the Steigerwald . This was also expressed in a song verse:

“Markertsgrün on a path / you can already see the Hohe Wart / if you look around a little / you are already in Fatschenbrunn / in Fatschenbrunn there is no good living / there are six weeks Bohna / six times Bohna and ka Flasch / Fatschenbrunn is al lumperts Nast / "

For centuries the Fatschenbrunners specialized in the production of dried fruit . They used the abundance of fruit in the area for extra bread: especially the medium-sized pears were processed into Hutzeln in Därröfen from September to November. Some families are currently still drying fruit.

The formerly independent community of Fatschenbrunn merged in 1978 with other surrounding communities to form the newly created community of Oberaurach.

In 2013 Fatschenbrunn took first place in the competition “Our village should be more beautiful”.
