history

Historical map of Trossenfurt from 1847

The north-eastern area of the Steigerwald was inhabited by Slavs until the middle of the 8th century. With the support of these Slavic settlers was probably built in the 8th / 9th. Century the clearing of Trossenfurt (previously also Trosenfurt). The place name probably contains the Slavic first name Droz / Drez (see neighboring Tretzendorf and Trosdorf bei Bischberg ).

The soil conditions allowed only mediocre grain and some hops to be grown, while the majority of the residents previously lived from the timber trade.

A small stonemason company founded by Conrad Vetter in 1865 quickly developed into a large company ("Deutsche Steinwerke AG"), which still exists in Eltmann , thanks to the building boom of the early days . Conrad Vetter opened important sandstone quarries around Trossenfurt and Tretzendorf.

Trossenfurt has been part of the newly formed municipality of Oberaurach since May 1, 1978 .

Church conditions

Trossenfurt originally formed part of the Eltmann parish, as can be seen from a document from 1423. At this time, however, the mother church seems to have already tried to find a solution, since in 1425 the Trossenfurt chapel had its baptismal font and cemetery confirmed, which was normally reserved for parish churches. But Trossenfurt and Tretzendorf were still part of the Eltmann parish in 1520. In 1650 both villages were branches of the parish of Oberschleichach, were temporarily back in 1671 to the parish of Eltmann and soon afterwards again to the parish of Oberschleichach. The keeping of church registers began in 1687. A chaplaincy was set up in Trossenfurt in 1802, but it was closed again in 1805. It was not until 1922 that the place was raised to a curate , now with Oberschleichach as a branch church. Since 2009, the two parishes Limbach and the parish Eltmann with associated localities belong to the parish community Main-Steigerwald with parish seat in Eltmann.

Since the Reformation had no effect on Trossenfurt, the village remained purely Catholic until the middle of the 20th century. It was only after the Second World War that some Evangelical Lutheran members of the faith moved in, who are looked after by the Trabelsdorf parish.
