history

Historical map of Tretzendorf from 1847

The north-eastern area of the Steigerwald was inhabited by Slavs until the middle of the 8th century. These Slavic settlers probably founded in the 8./9. Century the clearing of Tretzendorf . The defining word is probably a Slavic first name Drez / Droz (see neighboring Trossenfurt and Trosdorf bei Bischberg ). The place was first mentioned in a document in 1279.

The Katharinenspital (today Bürgerspital) in Bamberg still has considerable forests around Tretzendorf and several very good fish ponds. In the past, the inhabitants lived mainly from the timber trade, as the soil conditions only allowed mediocre grain cultivation.

At the end of the 19th century, aided by the building boom of the Wilhelminian era , Conrad Vetter ("Deutsche Steinwerke AG") opened important sandstone quarries in the vicinity of Trossenfurt and Tretzendorf.

Tretzendorf has belonged to the newly formed municipality of Oberaurach since May 1st, 1978 .

Church conditions

The residents of Tretzendorf never had their own church or chapel, but always attended the service in Trossenfurt:
