location

View from the north

The Fechenheimer Weiher is located in the extreme northeast of Fechenheim in the communal forest Fechenheimer Wald, immediately south of the route of the federal motorway 66 , which forms the border with the Enkheim district there. The area belongs to the eastern section of the Frankfurt Green Belt.

The riverside path is an educational forest trail with information boards on the fauna and flora of the water. Since 1973 the pond has been leased to the fishing club ASV 1946 Fechenheim Bischofsheim as a fishing water . Water sports, boats and swimming are not permitted.

Flora and fauna

The bank is thickly lined with trees and bushes. The predominant tree species there include black alder ( Alnus glutinosa ), red oak ( Quercus rubra ), ash ( Fraxinus excelsior ) and bird cherry ( Prunus avium ). On the banks grow irises ( Iris ), reed ( Phragmites australis ), cattail ( Typha ), two teeth ( Biden ) and rushes ( Juncus ).

Of the fish species that live in the pond, pike ( Esox lucius ) and pikeperch ( Sander lucioperca, also known as pike perch) are worth mentioning as predatory fish. In the Fechenheimer Weiher there is a small island near the western bank that is used as a breeding area for birds and is also used as a retreat by the reptiles and amphibians living in and around the water.
