Fedor Mesinger

Fedor Mesinger (born March 7, 1933 in Sremska Mitrovica , Yugoslavia ) is a Serbian meteorologist.

Life

He received his doctorate in 1960 from the Faculty of Science and Mathematics at the University of Belgrade , where he then taught meteorology , from 1980 as full professor.

His research focus was numerical weather forecast . Together with Zaviša Janjić , he developed the HIBU (Hydrometeorological Institute and Belgrade University) model in 1973 and the ETA model based on it .

He had research stays abroad at the National Center for Atmospheric Research , at the University of California, Los Angeles , and at the TH Darmstadt, among others .

Since 1990 he has been a member of the Academia Europaea . From 1998 he was a corresponding member of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SANU), since 2000 he has been a full member of the SANU. In 2001 he was awarded the Vilhelm Bjerknes Medal of the European Geophysical Society .
