Fedora Barbieri

Fedora Barbieri (born June 4, 1920 in Trieste , † March 4, 2003 in Florence ) was an Italian opera singer ( mezzo-soprano ).

Life

She made her debut in Florence in 1940 as Fidalma in Domenico Cimarosa's Il matrimonio segreto . She interrupted her career in 1943 because of her marriage and started again in 1945. Until her stage farewell, Barbieri could be heard at La Scala in Milan , but also in London , Vienna and New York .

She was a member of the Metropolitan Opera ensemble from 1950 to 1954 and 1956. From 1955 to 1958 Barbieri was a member of the Verona Festival ensemble . In 1977 she could be seen there again in the role of Gertrude in the opera Romeo et Juliette by Charles Gounod . In 1987 she appeared at the Puccini Festival in Torre del Lago alongside Giuseppe Taddei as Zita in Gianni Schicchi . Even after her stage departure, she continued to record records until 1990.
