After being kicked out, she has to move back to Wisconsin to live with her father Frank. Since April is also embarrassed to have been banned from Broadway, she claims in front of the locals that she has to help her sick father, which is not true. That's why she tries everything to turn her back on her hometown as soon as possible. When her former trainer Barb suggested she work as a trainer for a group of young dancers and get them fit for a dance competition, April initially refused. However, when she learns that Welly Wong, a famous Broadway producer, will also be present at the final of the dance competition, she accepts the job.
April quickly realizes that the dancers are not the most gifted and that not all of them are enthusiastic about their work. Above all, the young Sarah hates April since she ran off head over heels to New York many years ago and left her and her brother Nick behind. April and Nick had a relationship that April ended via text message. In dance training she meets Nick again after all these years and the old feelings flare up again.
April manages to get everything out of the dancers and brings them to the final of the Dance Nationals. When she dances in front of Welly Wong, he is immediately enthusiastic about April and offers her the lead role in his new piece. However, April would have to travel to New York immediately and would miss the dancers' superfinal. April leaves, leaving Sarah and Nick disappointed again. However, April realizes very quickly that it was not the right decision and returns. In the end, she gets back together with Nick and through an agreement with Wong, she can take on her job as the leading actress and as the trainer of the dance group.
