Fine polisher

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The fine polisher is a state-recognized training occupation in Germany under the Vocational Training Act (BBiG).

Duration of training and structure

The training period to become a fine polisher is usually three years. The training takes place at the training company and vocational school .

The profession already existed before the Vocational Training Act came into force. He was recognized in 1937. According to Section 108 (1) BBiG, these professions are considered training professions within the meaning of Section 25 BBiG until regular training regulations are created.

Work area

Fine polishers mainly work for manufacturers of jewelry, but also for jewelers or silver and goldsmiths . They make metal surfaces shine there, such as wristwatches, bracelets or rings. You can also do this work in the precision optics or precision engineering industry . They use abrasives and brushes, use polishing sanding and can use various chemical metalworking processes ( electroplating , burnishing, etc.).

professional school

In Germany there is a vocational school for this profession, the Pforzheim goldsmith school with watchmaking school .

development

The training regulations for the profession from 1937 are out of date. There is no training regulation with detailed content and modern examination requirements. The Federal Institute for Vocational Training (BiBB) therefore examined this and other professions in 2008 and 2009 before the Vocational Training Act came into force.

In its investigation, the BiBB comes to the conclusion that the fine polisher should be revised and designed with current content and examination requirements. From the perspective of the BiBB, the profession is still needed above all in the high-priced jewelry industry, as well as in specialized metalworking and processing companies.

Merging the fine polisher with other apprenticeships, for example with the shop assistant in the jewelry industry, pocket and wristwatches or the metal grinder is not seen as leading the way.
