The fine stripe Ameisenwürger ( Thamnophilus tenuepunctatus ) counts within the family of Antbirds (Thamnophilidae) to the genus of Thamnophilus .
The species occurs in Ecuador , Colombia and Peru .
The distribution area includes tropical or subtropical moist deep or mountain forests , preferably thickets in secondary forests and forest edges on the foothills of the eastern slopes of the eastern Andes, mostly between 400 and 1500 m altitude.
The Latin additional species comes from the Latin tenuis 'weak' and the Latin punctatus 'dotted' .
In the past, the species was considered to be specific to the dark-mantled ant shrike ( Thamnophilus palliatus ).
features
The bird is 15–16 cm tall and weighs between 22 and 23 g, has a clear hood and a yellow iris . The male is black with narrow white stripes with the exception of the hood and has a longitudinally striped throat. In the female, the hood, top and wings are red-brown. Compared to the female of the striped ant shrike ( Thamnophilus multistriatus ), the white stripes on the belly are narrower and hardly have a red-brown shimmer. Young birds have yellowish-brown colored plumage.
Geographic variation
The following subspecies are recognized:
- T. t. tenuepunctatus Lafresnaye , 1853, nominate form - northern and central Colombia, eastern slopes of the east
- T. t. tenuifasciatus Lawrence , 1867 - Southern and Central Colombia and Eastern Ecuador
- T. t. berlepschi Taczanowski , 1884 - Southeast Ecuador and Northeast Peru

The call is very the Barred Antshrike ( Thamnophilus doliatus ) similarly described.
Way of life
The diet consists mainly of insects . The species usually occurs in pairs and is rarely found in mixed hunting communities. Little is known about the breeding season.
Hazardous situation
The stock is considered to be endangered ( Vulnerable ).
