Feker Libi ( Beloved of My Heart ) is a pop song written by Doron Medalie and Idan Raichel . It is sung by Eden Alene and should represent Israel at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 in Rotterdam .

Background and production

Eden Alene won the casting show HaKokhav HaBa L'Eurovizion 2020 on February 4, 2020 , which serves as the selection of the artist for the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest. She got the maximum number of points from both the jury and the audience. A month later, on March 3rd, the show The Next Song for Eurovision 2020 took place, in which Alene presented four titles. The song Feker Libi emerged as the winner, although it reached first place in the telephone vote , but only second place in the juries.

The song was written and composed by Doron Medalie and Idan Raichel. Raichel produced the title with Yinon Yahel, who also mixed it .

Music and lyrics

Feker Libi is described as a colorful pop song that combines African dance beats with Middle Eastern sounds. A special feature is the multilingual text: the intro consists of the English and Amharic text line “ፍቅር ልቤ, እወድሃለሁ, ና ወደ እኔ, I love you” (“Feker libi, wade halu, nawa dane, I love you”, German “Mein Beloved, I love you, come to me ”). Stanza 1 mentions Pachamama , as well as the word "Melodía" used in several languages. The pre-chorus contains two lines in a constructed language while the chorus is sung in English. The post-chorus also contains phrases in Arabic and Hebrew with the title “Feker Libi” . The repeated outro has the same text as the intro.

At the Eurovision Song Contest

Israel should have performed with this song in the first semifinals of the Eurovision Song Contest 2020. However, due to the advancing COVID-19 pandemic , the competition was canceled. The Israeli delegation had already canceled a trip to Rotterdam at the beginning of March, where the filming of the postcard, which will be shown before each contribution, should take place.

reception

According to Wiwibloggs it was possible to mix many elements without them sounding chaotic. The singer is full of charisma and you can tell that she feels comfortable on stage. ESCXtra also praised the title. It is impossible to sit still as soon as the song is played. Eden Alene has a good stamina and stage presence. On the other hand, one of the authors criticized the fact that the title sounds like a lot of other songs have been mixed together and none of them really stand out. The German blog ESC Kompakt draws comparisons to Shakira and the Norwegian Grand Prix contribution Haba Haba (2011). The different regional languages would give "the song more originality and that also fits Eden". Here, too, the style was criticized. One reviewer writes that "so much happens in the song that at times I have the feeling that at least 3 different songs of different quality have been mixed together here."

publication

Before the preliminary decision, the song was released on February 27, 2020. On March 3, it was released as a single for download. The so-called "Yinon Yahel & Mor Avrahami" remix was released on April 29th.

Idan Raichel sang a cover version, which was made available for download on March 29th. It also received a remix, namely the "HEVI LEVI" remix.
