Felice Leonardo
Felice Leonardo (born March 9, 1915 in Pietramelara , Province of Caserta , Italy ; † April 15, 2015 ibid.) Was Roman Catholic Bishop of Cerreto Sannita-Telese-Sant'Agata de 'Goti .
Life
Felice Leonardo was ordained a priest on July 24, 1938 . During the Second World War he was pastor of San Giovanni Battista di Roccamonfina in Monte Cassino. In 1947 he became rector of the local seminary .
On July 22, 1957 he was by Pope Pius XII. appointed Bishop of the Diocese of Telese o Cerreto Sannita. The episcopal ordination received his Adeodato Giovanni Piazza Cardinal OCD on 29 September of the same year; Co- consecrators were Matteo Guido Sperandeo , Bishop of Calvi e Teano, and Giacomo Palombella , Archbishop of Matera. In 1986 he was appointed bishop of the diocese of Sant'Agata de 'Goti. In 1960 he organized the Incontri Quaresimali del Giovedi event , in which the later Italian President Oscar Luigi Scalfaro took part. On July 2, 1964 he called the statue ofMadonna delle Grazie in Cerreto Sannita as a diocesan pilgrimage site. From 1962 to 1965 Leonardo took part in the Second Vatican Council . After the council he tried to implement the decisions made there in his diocese and his life. He mainly devoted himself to family chaplaincy.
On November 19, 1979 he founded an institute for religious studies, in which since then many catechists and religion teachers have been trained.
With the merging of the previously independent dioceses Telese o Cerreto Sannita and Sant'Agata de 'Goti to the diocese of Cerreto Sannita-Telese-Sant'Agata de' Goti on September 30, 1986, he became the first bishop of the new diocese based in Cerreto Sannita. He had been the Apostolic Administrator of Sant'Agata de 'Goti since 1982 .
His resignation was granted on July 20, 1991 by Pope John Paul II . A year earlier, Leonardo had already submitted a resignation on the occasion of his 75th birthday, as required by church law. Even after his retirement he remained involved in the Italian Church. In October 2005 Felice Leonardo moved back to his hometown Pietramelara, where he died a month after his 100th birthday.
