Felix Böcker

Felix Böcker (born December 18, 1931 in Havixbeck ) is a German psychiatrist . From 1975 to 1996 he was head of the district hospital in Bayreuth and campaigned for the establishment of social psychiatry and the development of community psychiatry in Germany.

Life

Felix Böcker, son of the neurologist Hans Böcker, studied medicine at the University of Cologne . After training as a specialist in neurology and psychiatry, he became a Dr. med. PhD . In 1971 he completed his habilitation at the University of Erlangen . In 1977 he was appointed adjunct professor . From 1975 to 1996 he was medical director of the district hospital of the district of Upper Franconia in Bayreuth.

Felix Böcker is involved in numerous social projects in the Holy Land . In 1975 he was appointed Knight of the Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher by Cardinal Grand Master Maximilien Cardinal de Fuerstenberg and invested in the order on December 6, 1975 in Essen by Franz Hengsbach , Grand Prior of the German Lieutenancy .

From 1956 he was married to Gisela, b. Sauerland (1933-1988); the marriage resulted in five children. He is married to Sybille, geb. Schnetzer.

Felix Böcker has been actively involved in contemporary art for more than six decades. In 1975 he began to equip the wards of the Bayreuth Nervous Hospital with pictures by contemporary artists and to contrast them with the works of mentally ill people in regular annual exhibitions with the aim of making a contribution to relieving the isolation of mentally ill people.

The couple Felix and Sybille Böcker gave the Art Museum Bayreuth a total of 62 works by various artists as gifts in 2007/2011.

Act

In 1961 Felix Böcker published a diagnostic method for psychopathology ( Böckertest ). This test is based on a performance test and is intended to provide psychometric results on the severity of a continuity syndrome. In 1973 Böcker published a standard work on suicide research . Other focal points of his wide-ranging scientific work are organic psychoses , schizophrenia , organization and problems of psychiatric care facilities, rehabilitation of the mentally ill, art of the mentally ill, body-soul problem .

In addition to his scientific work and his work as the medical director of the Bayreuth Nervous Hospital, Böcker was represented in a number of relevant commissions, specialist committees and bodies.In 1973 he was the founding president of the German Society for Suicide Prevention , and in 1986/87 he was President of the German Society for Psychiatry and Neurology ( DGPPN).
