Felix Brodtbeck

Felix Brodtbeck (born November 3, 1909 in Liestal ; † April 3, 1982 in Basel ) was a Swiss choir director and organist .

Life

Felix Brodtbeck came from a long-established Liestal family and grew up in Oberwil . At the Basel Conservatory he studied organ with Adolf Hamm , singing with Arthur Althaus, music theory with Gustav Güldenstein and conducting with Hans Münch ; Study visits took him to Berlin to Paul Lohmann and to Günther Ramin in Leipzig .

In 1933 he took up his first position as organist at St. Jakobs Church in Basel before moving to the Johanneskirche . He worked here for a total of 46 years until his death. In addition, Brodtbeck played over 20,000 abdications in the Hörnli cemetery over three decades . From 1955 to 1974 he taught as an organ teacher at the General Music School .

In 1943 Brodtbeck began to lead various choirs in the Basel region, a. a. the church choir of the Peterskirche (today St. Peter choir ), the male choir of Kleinbasel, the Reveille choir of the Basel Liedertafel and the male choirs Gundeldingen and Pratteln. In 1944 he joined the Association of Choral Conductors in Northwestern Switzerland (now the Association of Choral Conducting Northwestern Switzerland ) and served as treasurer from 1947 to 1958, then as president until shortly before his death in 1982.
