Felix Arthur Clair Oswald (born November 3, 1866 in London , † November 3, 1958 ) was an English geologist and archaeologist who carried out fundamental research on the Roman terra sigillata .

Felix Oswald, son of Eugene Oswald , studied at the University of London (BA) and then worked in the public sector.

In 1898 he accompanied Harry Finis Blosse Lynch as a geologist on his journey through Turkish Armenia . This resulted in his book A Treatise on the Geology of Armenia , with which he earned his doctorate from the University of London . In 1907 he became a Fellow of the Geological Society of London . In 1911 he toured Central Africa on behalf of the British Museum . In 1914 he traveled to the Caucasus on behalf of the Russian government to look for other oil wells . This resulted in his geological map of the Caucasus.

Until his retirement in 1936, he worked as a "Probate Registrar" for the East Midlands in Nottingham . If he had been interested in the Roman provincial legacies of England since his youth, he was now able to carry out excavations in Margidunum since 1911 . The research of the Roman terra sigillata became his specialty , here he presented indices of the potter's stamps and the figurative hallmarks in addition to a long-term fundamental introduction.

The University of Nottingham named him "Honorary Reader of the History of Roman Britain".
