The Felsenaubrücke connects Bern's Felsenau district across the Aare with the Bremgarten community . The concrete bridge was built in 1949 and replaced the wooden bridge built in 1928 by the Bernese sappers battalion. Before that, the Bremgarten ferry had operated between Felsenau (Fährstrasse) and Bremgarten since 1877.
The 63 meter long and 8 meter high road bridge should not be confused with the nearby motorway viaduct , known as the Felsenau Viaduct and in the literature mostly referred to as the Bern rock bridge , a part of the motorway 1 , which is commonly known as the A1 among the Swiss population .
