Schönausteg
The Schönausteg is a small footbridge over the Aare in the city of Bern . It has a span of around 55 m and connects the Lindenau settlement with the lower Kirchenfeld . Before the Chain Bridge was built in 1906, the Dählhölzli ferry, introduced in 1868, was used to cross the Aare.
Crossing the bridge with motor vehicles and bicycles is prohibited. In summer, the footbridge between the Marzili outdoor pool and the Eichholz recreation area is a popular destination for bathers. Since the chain bridge is only 2 m above the water, it is often used by bathers to jump into the Aare.
