Ferdinand Bernabela

Ferdinand Bernabela (* in Kralendijk , Bonaire , Netherlands Antilles ) is a football coach from Bonaire . After Arturo Charles (2010 to 2012) and Rudsel Sint Jago (2012 to 2014), from 2014 to 2015 he was the third national coach in the young history of the Bonaire national soccer team .

Career

Ferdinand Bernabela was born in Kralendijk, the capital of the island of Bonaire, in what was then the Dutch overseas territory of the Netherlands Antilles. In his hometown he attended the Scholengemeenschap (SGB) Bonaire .

On May 1, 2014, he took over the coaching position of the Bonaire national soccer team after his predecessor Rudsel Sint Jago had only played two international matches with Bonaire from 2012 to 2014. During Bernabela's tenure, Bonaire became a full member of CONCACAF and the Caribbean Football Union (CUF). On June 1, 2014, he completed his first international match as national coach when he started qualifying for the Caribbean Championship 2014 with Bonaire . After a 2-1 win over the US Virgin Islands and a 0-0 draw against Montserrat , Bonaire made it as the winner of Group 1 in the preliminary round to the subsequent first qualifying round, in which the team came in third in Group 3 (with consecutive Marking from the preliminary round) was eliminated from the ongoing qualification. After a 6-0 defeat against Martinique , Bonaire won the next game against Suriname 3-2, but then lost again 1-4 against Barbados . After being postponed several times due to the strong performance of Curaçao during qualifying for the Caribbean Cup 2014, Bernabela led his team through the ABCS tournament held in Suriname in early 2015 . The first game on January 30th against the hosts Bonaire lost 3-0, the next against Curaçao 1: 4. These were also Bonaire's last known international matches until 2018. At Bonaire's next two international matches in qualifying for the first-ever CONCACAF Nations League in September and October 2018, Bernabela was no longer the coach, but first the Argentine Emmanuel Cristorí and in the second match Robert Winklaar from Bonaire.
