Ferdinand Leeke (born April 7, 1859 in Burg near Magdeburg , † November 16, 1937 in Nuremberg ) was a German painter.

Life

Ferdinand Leeke studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich from 1881 under Ludwig von Herterich (1856–1932) and Alexander (Sándor) von Liezen-Mayer (1839–1898).

His main work is a series of pictures with scenes from Richard Wagner's operas, created between 1889 and 1898 on behalf of the composer Siegfried Wagner (1869–1930), the third son of Richard Wagner (1813–1883).

The pictures were published in poster form in 1899 by the Munich art publisher “Franz Hanfstaengl” with accompanying text by Franz Muncker , printed using the six-color rotogravure printing process.

Leeke was as an illustrator for magazines (u. A. The gazebo active) and illustrated the German heroic sagas of Richard Weitbrecht .
