Ferdinand Schirren
Ferdinand Schirren (born August 27, 1872 in Antwerp , † February 19, 1944 in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean / Sint-Jans-Molenbeek ) was a Belgian painter , watercolorist and sculptor .
biography
Ferdinand Schirren's parents were immigrants from Riga (Latvia). Schirren studied sculpture at the Académie royale des Beaux-Arts de Bruxelles with Jef Lambeaux . Then he began to paint, especially in watercolor, in addition to sculpture.
In the 1910s, his painting made him, alongside Rik Wouters , one of the most important representatives of the movement that was later referred to as Brabant Fauvism . In 1912 he organized three personal exhibitions. He became a member of the "Labeur" artists' association. He spent the years 1914 to 1921 in Paris . In the last years of his life he limited himself to still life painting.
He was the father of the Belgian composer, musician and educator Fernand Schirren (1920-2001).
