Ferdinando Silvani

Ferdinando Silvani (born May 16, 1823 in Parma ; † January 23, 1899 there ) was an Italian engraver .

life and work

Silvani was a student of Paolo Toschi at the Accademia di belle arti di Parma . In his engravings he dealt with religious subjects. A well-known work by Silvani is his graphic Balaustrata nella cupola del duomo or The Apostles, based on the fresco Admission of Mary to Heaven by Antonio da Correggio in the Cathedral of Parma . Works by Silvani are in the holdings of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Royal Collection .

Occasionally, landscape paintings with Venetian motifs are offered on the art market, starting with “F. Silvani ”are signed and ascribed to the artist, but could have been created outside of his life data. This can be a pseudonym of another artist, whether it comes from Ferdinando Silvani is unclear.
