Fernando Rivas

Fernando Rivas (* 1952 in La Habana , Cuba ) is an American composer, two-time Emmy and simple Grammy winner. In 2011 he was charged with possessing and distributing child pornography .

Life

Shortly after the Cuban revolution and the arrival of Fidel Castro , Fernando Rivas left Cuba with his family. He then grew up in Miami , where he attended Christopher Columbus High School until 1970. He then studied at the Juilliard School until 1977 and finished his studies with a bachelor's degree in composition.

After graduating from school, he composed for various television and radio stations. He was awarded an Emmy in 1995 and 1996 for his work on Sesame Street . His work on the Seasamstrasse album Elmopalooza earned him a Grammy Award in 1999 in the category "Best Children's Album". For the past few years he has worked for the Disney Channel and their preschool series Master Manny's Toolbox . From 2002 to 2009 he also worked as a jazz teacher at a school in Charleston .

On April 19, 2011, his house was searched by the local police and the FBI . Several photos of a four-year-old girl were found in clearly sexual poses, some in bondage style. According to media reports, Rivas is said to have admitted to having distributed these images via email . His trial has been taking place since November 21, 2011. Rivas pleads "not guilty". Rivas is currently under house arrest after paying a bail .
