The Tbilisi TV Tower ( Georgian თბილისის ტელეანძა ) is a 274.5 meter high freestanding television tower in the Georgian capital Tbilisi . It stands on Mtatsminda on the right bank of the Kura and is called Ansa in Tbilisi .
The Tbilisi TV tower was built in 1972. It is a tubular steel construction reminiscent of a large tripod. About halfway up there is a low-rise building in which the technical center is housed. A two-story tower cage sits on top of the main pipe . In 2004 a fire destroyed the fixtures and it has been under reconstruction since then. In 2005, the tower was provided with a play of light made up of a network of multi-colored lighting elements, which quickly alternated different lighting motifs. As a result, the tower was visible from afar in the dark and became a kind of landmark of the city.
The television tower broadcasts TV and radio programs. In addition, systems for mobile telephony are installed. The tower is operated by Telecenter of Georgia, founded in 1955 .
At the foot of the tower, an amusement park, Mtatsminda Park, was greatly expanded and modernized in early 2009.
