from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Vera Ferra-Mikura , own Gertrud Mikura b. Ferra (* 14. February 1923 in Vienna , † 9. March 1997 ) was an Austrian children's books - author .

Life

After completing secondary school , Vera Ferra-Mikura first worked in her parents' bird shop and later as a runner in a department store in Vienna. During the Second World War she worked as a typist in an architectural office and after 1945 as an editor in a publishing house. Her final resting place is at Vienna's Südwestfriedhof (group 4, row 2, number 5).

Since 1948 she was a freelance writer . In the same year she married the state opera dancer Ludwig Mikura, with whom she had two children. In 1948 and 1949 Ferra-Mikura was a partner in the “Mont Blanc Verlag” founded by Karl Konrad Bauer.

After her book Das Luftschloss des Herr Wuschelkopf , the first Austrian children's musical was created in 1966/67 .

Artistic creation

Almost all of Vera Ferra-Mikura's children's books are characterized by a magical realism . Social criticism is not left out. Nevertheless, the plot and the people involved convey comfort and hope. Vera Ferra-Mikura herself says about her books: “An unclear or negative conclusion leaves you feeling discouraged. Not even the adult, who is stronger than the child, can do without illusions. ”She was best known for the stories about the Stanis lice , which were published by Jungbrunnen . In addition, it is Ferra-Mikura's fantastic texts that have contributed to its literary importance. Susanne Blumesberger postulates that in her fantastic texts Ferra-Mikura "found the new direction of children's and youth literature completely independently, which was given the name" fantastic narrative "or" magical realism "." Ferra-Mikura is therefore, alongside the Austrian writer Erica Lillegg , a pioneer of fantastic storytelling for children in German-speaking countries.
