The Oldenburg fire brigade in the Lower Saxony city of Oldenburg consists of the Oldenburg professional fire brigade and the Oldenburg volunteer fire brigade with the Eversten, Haarentor, Ofenerdiek, Ohmstede, Easter castle, city center and the water rescue department.
The Oldenburg fire brigade has almost 180 full-time and more than 200 volunteer emergency services, who handle around 25,000 missions per year (almost 60% of them in the rescue service). In the city of Oldenburg, in addition to two guards from the professional fire brigades, there is also an ambulance station at the Oldenburg Clinic and a total of six locations of the volunteer fire brigades, which are distributed across the city districts.
history
With the establishment of the Turner fire brigade on April 30, 1862, the volunteer fire brigade was founded, from which the town center fire brigade, which still exists today, arose.
In 1937 the fire extinguishing system in the city of Oldenburg underwent a profound change as a result of National Socialism. The voluntary fire brigade with full-time staff was reorganized into a professional fire brigade with a staff of 26 and subordinated to the police headquarters. The volunteer fire brigade with the then five fire brigades Eversten, Ofenerdiek, Ohmstede, Oldenburg and Osternburg remained independently organized alongside the professional fire brigade. Since it was founded, the professional fire brigade of the city of Oldenburg, as well as the local fire brigades Eversten, Haarentor, Ofenerdiek, Ohmstede, Osternburg and Stadtmitte have been responsible for fire protection , technical assistance , disaster control and rescue services .
The number of staff in the professional fire brigade always followed the development of the city's population. When, after the Second World War, the population reached around 130,000 due to the strong influx of refugees, the associated increase in the number of operations also made it necessary to strengthen the professional fire brigade. In the post-war period, the workforce grew to almost 70 full-time workers.
Today around 200 volunteers and 180 fire fighters protect the lives and property of Oldenburg citizens.
Departments
Height rescue
The Oldenburg professional fire brigade has had a height rescue service since 2001 .
It is carried out by fire brigade officers who are all regularly deployed in defensive fire protection, technical assistance and rescue services. These activities are the responsibility of volunteers and professional fire services.
Prerequisites for working at the Oldenburg fire brigade:
Civil protection
The subject area takes on the planning part within the Deployment department. For this purpose, all conceivable damage scenarios from vehicle or garbage can fires in daily hazard prevention to large-scale damage incidents with a large number of people affected in the area of special hazard prevention are planned in advance. These can be a dangerous goods accident in rail traffic, a fire in an industrial plant with extensive measurement tasks as well as planning to ward off swine flu, bird plague or influenza pandemic.
The plans lead to the definition of an alarm and release order (AAO) for the daily averting of danger as well as the creation of special fire service plans . These fire brigade deployment plans can be created object-related, for example for a hazardous materials company or as an action plan for temporary special situations and major events (e.g. for the city festival).
Fire Prevention
This department of the professional fire brigade assumes an important role in enforcing fire-fighting issues in planning, new construction and monitoring of construction measures for new and existing objects and buildings in the city of Oldenburg. The department advises building owners, planners and architects in all matters relating to structural, technical and organizational fire protection.
Department of Technology
The procurement of vehicles and equipment for the professional fire brigade and for the voluntary fire brigade of the city of Oldenburg are an essential part of the activities of this department. In addition to the procurement, the maintenance of the technical equipment and the fleet of 67 emergency vehicles is to be carried out in cooperation with the individual specialist workshops.
Here comes the radio and alarm technology in digital radio including maintenance and further development.
The area of respiratory protection / diving / medical technology with an attached fire department's own breathing apparatus training system are also part of it.
