The Göttingen fire brigade is the umbrella organization for all fire brigades in the university town of Göttingen , both professional and volunteer fire brigades .
history
The history of the volunteer fire brigade begins when it was founded on January 20, 1856. At that time, 25 members of a gymnastics community were supposed to complete regular training in order to be prepared for emergencies. This system worked for many years until a major fire in 1906 destroyed a house on Groner Strasse and severely damaged some neighboring buildings.
The city planning council noticed that fires could not be fought effectively by the fire extinguishing system of the time. A “reorganization of the fire brigade” was drawn up, which provided that a fire station with a permanent crew of 6 should be established in the city center. Tasks should be the maintenance of the fire-fighting equipment, regular exercises and fire safety guards in the theater. The persons should pursue their learned occupation on the watch. On October 1, 1908, the building was ready for occupancy and eight people moved into the fire station on Ritterplan. January 20, 1908 is the official founding date of the professional fire brigade. The new fire station offered large parking spaces for the fire engines, apartments, a hose maintenance facility as well as workshops and stables for the horses. Soon a fire alarm system with public alarm devices was switched on. Before that, the tower keeper had to keep an eye out on the Johanniskirchturm and give the alarm via the fire horn in case of fire.
At the same time as the first professional firefighters , three companies of the volunteer fire brigade set up on the Ritterplan. The firefighters who lived nearby received alarm clocks in their apartments.
During the Second World War, the professional fire brigade was merged with the volunteer fire brigade. After the end of the war, this was reversed and as early as 1947, the fire brigade's staffing plan showed 62 positions. The guard moved briefly to what is now the New Town Hall; it was not until July 1972 that the move to the current site on Breslauer Straße took place. In 1985 the building, which is still in use today, was ready to move into.
Years before that, starting with the Herberhausen volunteer fire brigade, some fire brigades were integrated into the city of Göttingen as part of the administrative and regional reform. In 1974 there were already twelve places.
The fire station at the University Hospital was opened on April 30, 1996.
The fire brigade as an authority
Ambulance service
The city of Göttingen, as the provider of the rescue service, uses its own professional fire brigade and the DRK, the Johanniter and the Maltese for emergency rescue. Ambulance transports are also taken over by the aid organizations, but are also processed by the integrated control center . The rescue helicopter Christoph 44 is operated by the German Air Rescue , the medical crew is provided by the university clinic and the professional fire brigade.
In addition, there is a “leading emergency doctor group” for unusual missions as well as various “rapid action groups” (SEG) with around 75 helpers, paramedics and paramedics for major incidents.
The rescue service handles around 13,500 missions every year, plus around 1,300 rescue helicopter missions. Ambulance transports are processed around 20,500 annually.
Civil protection
In Göttingen, many organizations are involved in disaster control . These include the Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund with SEG care, a rescue dog squadron and a support train, the German Life Rescue Society for water rescue, the German Red Cross at the medical service and the rapid rescue team (SEG), as well as the Johanniter- Accident assistance at the SEG and the technical relief organization in the rescue service. The voluntary fire brigade in Göttingen provides a hazardous substance train and works together with the THW in the rescue service. A telecommunication train ensures that communication is maintained in the event of major incidents.
Professional fire brigade
Hauptwache
The main station of the professional fire brigade has been based in the Göttingen-Geismar district on Breslauer Strasse since July 1972 . The building also houses the joint fire and rescue control center for the city and the district of Göttingen. Before that, the professional fire brigade had its watch on Ritterplan, but it ultimately became too small. In addition to a vehicle hall, there is a hose tower with hose maintenance and workshops for breathing apparatus , radio technology and motor vehicles on the Hauptwache site .
Fire station university hospital
The fire station at the university hospital is located on Zimmermannstrasse right next to the university hospital in Göttingen. The fire station has been in operation since April 30, 1996 and is staffed by the professional fire brigade.
The task of the Uniwache is primarily to ensure fire protection in the objects of the University of Göttingen. Occasionally, however, missions are carried out outside of the premises to support the main guard.
Control center
The integrated control center (ILSt) was completely modernized in 2006 and the old operations control system was replaced by the "PFEIL" system (police and fire brigade operations control system). Over 50,000 missions are processed here every year. During the renovation, technologies such as telephone and emergency call technology as well as radio and alarm systems were renewed. Emergency calls for fire and rescue services can be accepted at 10 ultra-modern workstations and dispatched for the entire city and district of Göttingen.
The Kassenärztlichen emergency service (KND) has not been mediated by the control center since April 2012. The Kassenärztliche Notdienst (KND) can be reached under the national number 116117 .
Volunteer firefighter
structure
There are 13 local fire brigades in the Göttingen fire brigade, which are alerted in the event of damage in their district. The local fire brigades are often used to support the Göttingen professional fire brigade and are then subordinate to the chief of operations of the professional fire brigade.
The volunteer fire brigade Göttingen is under the command of the volunteer fire brigade. The city fire chief has his seat in the command. Above this are the department head of the fire brigade, the legal department and finally the mayor of the city of Göttingen.
