The Stralsund fire brigade , based at Fährwall 18 , is responsible for fire protection and technical assistance in the city of Stralsund as well as fire fighting and technical assistance at sea and is part of the Stralsund public order office . It consists of a professional fire brigade (BF) and a volunteer fire brigade (FF).
From 1770 until the Stralsund fire brigade was founded in 1883, fire protection was ensured by various predecessor organizations. These are made up of various full-time and volunteer workers. In 1770 a fire master and two night watchmen were employed full-time for the first time, from 1815 these tasks were taken over by a fire police . A full-time fire station staffed by three men was set up in Stralsund's town hall in 1856. At this time, fire protection is ensured by a compulsory fire brigade, a rescue team under the direction of a police inspector and a rescue corps consisting of bricklayers and journeyman carpenters under the direction of a fire master. After the professional fire brigade was founded, the establishment of a volunteer fire brigade was initially dispensed with. In 1913 the Stralsund fire brigade consisted of a fire inspector, a sergeant and five fire fighters. It was not until 1959 that the city council decided to found the volunteer fire brigade. The operational strength should be 30 men in the founding year. At the time of its establishment, 21 volunteers were starting their service. In 1961 the Stralsund volunteer fire brigade was fully operational with a motorized sprayer trailer and an LF 8 / TSA fire engine. After taking over a second fire engine in 1962, the required strength of 30 firefighters was also achieved. In a performance comparison of the volunteer fire brigades of the GDR, the FF Stralsund was GDR master in 1965.
