The Schwerin fire brigade consists of a professional and a volunteer fire brigade , with five guard locations. They are organized in the specialist service for fire and rescue services in the state capital Schwerin of the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .

history

The history of regulated fire protection in Schwerin begins in the early modern era. After two devastating major fires in 1531 and 1558, the provincial dukes of Mecklenburg issued the first fire extinguishing regulations, which also regulated fire extinguishing in the 16th century. After two more major fires in 1651 and 1676, fire protection regulations were issued in 1690, which were tightened again a year later. Nevertheless, there was another major fire in 1697, which led to the adoption of the High Princely Mecklenburg Fire Regulations. The first real fire engine was purchased in 1700, supplementing two smaller and one larger artificial syringes in the city. Another fire engine followed 50 years later. In 1831 the first regular fire brigade started with a fire watch, but it soon gave up again. In 1842 another fire order was issued, which was to remain in force until 1869. In 1851 the Grand Duke decreed that the military engineers should be available in the event of a fire. In 1856 the arsenal was expanded to include a mobile ladder with a hose.

When a major fire broke out in Zippendorf in 1863 , a voluntary gymnast fire brigade was founded that same year . In 1869 the fire extinguishing system was fundamentally reorganized. Individual citizens were no longer called in, instead the fire fighting fell to a paid professional fire brigade, which should be supported by the gymnast fire brigade if necessary. In 1875 the first full-day fire watch was set up, which was able to move to a new building in 1892. In 1894 fire alarms were installed all over Schwerin . With the outbreak of World War I , the military was also used to support the eight-man professional fire brigade. In 1922, the Schwerin fire brigade was motorized and the emergency services, which were attached to the police as the fire protection police during the Third Reich , were employed.

After the end of the war, the fire brigade was reorganized; it already had two fire fighting group vehicles 15, one fire fighting group vehicle 25, two turntable ladders 32, one fire fighting group vehicle 8 , a hose trolley , six portable pumps , two portable fire pump trailers , a car and three motorcycles.

After the Second World War , the “Ordinance on Fire Protection in the Countries of the Soviet Occupation Zone of Germany of August 28, 1949” came into force, which led to the establishment of the Fire Protection Office. In 1990 the three-shift system was introduced at the fire station. On March 1, 1991, the fire brigade again became a municipal office of the state capital Schwerin and received several new emergency vehicles. In 2005 the integrated control center was set up.
