Fickle Pickle

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Fickle Pickle was a British rock band from London that was active in the early 1970s. The band celebrated their greatest success in the Netherlands , where they placed two singles in the top 40.

Band history

Fickle Pickle consisted of former members of the bands The Smoke (Cliff Wade, Geoff Gill), Orange Bicycle (Wil Malone) and Red Dirt (Steve Howden), who also worked as sound engineers and producers in the vicinity of Morgan Studios in North London. Danny Beckerman, who died in 2006, temporarily helped out as a musician and songwriter in the band.

In August 1970, Fickle Pickle released a cover version of Paul McCartney's song Maybe I'm Amazed (which had appeared on his debut album in April 1970 ) as a single in the UK and the US . The 7-inch record was also launched in the Netherlands - with the song Sitting on a Goldmine on the B-side; there it rose to 36th place in the top 40 in spring 1971. In the fall of 1971, the single California Calling, written by Gill and Beckerman, made it into the Dutch Top 40, reaching number 26. Due to the success in the Netherlands, the band released an album there (and only there) in 1972, Sinful Skinful . Among the songs she released as other singles were covers of Don McLean's American Pie and Paul Williams ' Just an Old Fashioned Love Song (made famous by the hit version of Three Dog Night ). However, Fickle Pickle failed to achieve further chart successes .
