The Roman Catholic branch church Glinzendorf is located in the municipality of Glinzendorf in the Gänserndorf district in Lower Austria . It is consecrated to St. Catherine and belongs to the parish Markgrafneusiedl in the Marchfeld dean's office in the vicariate Unter dem Manhartsberg of the Archdiocese of Vienna . The building is under monument protection ( list entry ).

Location description

The church is in the Angermitte in the center of Glinzendorf. It is surrounded by a cemetery.

history

The nave and the choir are essentially Romanesque and date from the second half of the 13th century. At the end of the 17th century there was a Baroque transformation .

architecture

Church exterior

The church has a simple exterior. The nave has faced arched windows. The choir has moved in and has a straight ending. The arched windows in the choir show early Gothic tracery . above it is a small octagonal church tower with a pyramid spire . This was renewed in 1913.

Church interior

The nave of the church is three-bay and cross -arched and rests on flat pillars. A compact triumphal arch separates the choir from the nave. The late Romanesque choir is barrel vaulted. The three-part organ gallery in the west rests on Tuscan columns. A baroque, barrel-vaulted sacristy connects to the choir on the north side . This is slightly higher because there is a crypt underneath.

Furnishing

The classical high altar dates from the beginning of the 19th century. The altarpiece shows the "wedding of St. Catherine". The side altars were built in the middle of the 19th century. On the left side altar there is a figure of the Sacred Heart , on the right the Holy Mary . The pulpit dates from the beginning of the 19th century. A baroque picture shows the "Descent from the Cross". It was painted in the first half of the 18th century. There are also figures of Saints Rochus and Sebastian from the end of the 17th century and figures of Saints Florian and George from the middle of the 18th century in the church.

The organ was made by Franz Ullmann in 1842 .
