Building description

The originally Romanesque church was structurally changed in the Gothic , Baroque and 19th century. A bell cast by Benedikt Fiering in 1586 hangs in the tower with its coupled, Romanesque sound windows and a pointed gable helmet.

Inside, a round arched triumphal arch connects the flat-roofed, Romanesque nave with pointed arch windows in the south with the recessed choir. The choir has a groin vault from the 17th century in the western yoke and is otherwise barrel vaulted . The brick, three-axis west gallery is supported by a groin vault. The sacristy on the tower ground floor has a baroque vault.

Murals

The picture strip from the 15th century halfway up the round apse was exposed in 1993/94 and depicts the risen Christ with the apostles in a simple striped frame. The paintings are characterized by the clearly characterized faces and, in addition to bowl folds, serpentine lines, are typical for the soft style are features of the blocked, soft style around 1430/40 with the sometimes pointed tips of the garment. The fragmented figure of Christ is flanked: to the north by an apostle figure trimmed by a window and the apostles Matthew with sword, Thomas with lance, John with chalice, Peter with book and key. To the south, a fragmented Paul with a sword, Andreas with a St. Andrew's cross and Matthias with a book and ax on a halberd pole are shown.

The Nazarene paintings on the barrel vault of the choir were made in the late 19th century and show the Annunciation as well as the Saints Joseph , Christophorus and Nicholas.
