The Roman Catholic branch church Wittau is located in the village of Wittau in the municipality of Groß-Enzersdorf in the Gänserndorf district in Lower Austria . It is consecrated to St. Nicholas and belongs to the Probstdorf parish in the Marchfeld deanery in the vicariate Unter dem Manhartsberg of the Archdiocese of Vienna . The building is under monument protection ( list entry ).

Location description

The church stands in the center of the village and is integrated into the southern row of houses.

history

The simple late baroque village church was built in the second half of the 18th century.

architecture

Church exterior

The church is a simple late baroque building. The nave is strictly structured by pilaster strips between the arched windows. Above it is a surrounding cornice. The eastern church tower is presented to the nave and at the same time forms the choir of the church. The choir tower has a steep pointed spire.

Church interior

The three-bay nave is vaulted . In between are belt arches that rest on flat pillars. The triumphal arch is rounded. The choir has a groin vault and ends in a straight ending. The sacristy to the south is also vaulted with groin vaults.

Furnishing

The small late baroque altar dates from the end of the 18th century. St. Nicholas is depicted on the altarpiece and the Holy Spirit is depicted in the excerpt . The two baroque figures on the altar were created at the end of the 18th century and represent Saints Peter and Paul .
