background

The first edition of the newspaper appeared in November 2006. Founder and publisher is the journalist Reggie Amigo, who, like part of the core team, is based in Hong Kong. The other part of the core team is based in the Philippine capital Manila .

The central offer of the Filipino Globe is the print edition - advertisements appearing here are transferred to the website free of charge. The print and online editions are published by the "integrated media service provider" Apex Media, based in Hong Kong. Its catchment area for correspondents and marketing representatives includes the Philippines and the Asia-Pacific region as overseas markets as well as the United States and Canada , Europe and the Middle East .

With a report about an unusually high number of Filipino housemaids in a short time - 21 in three years - with the singer and actor Jacky Cheung , the newspaper achieved a wide reach and also ensured that Cheung did not receive any further permits for employment contracts with Filipino migrant workers.

construction

In terms of content, the editions follow a scheme that first geographically expands the target group's focus from the small to the large picture, then "soft topics" follow:

  • The City : Hong Kong and Macau news
  • The Nation : News and Reports from the Philippines
  • The World : News and reports from around the world (with a special focus on Filipino expatriates )
  • In Focus : u. a. Editorials and comments
  • Life and Times : u. a. Health and beauty topics, show business, horoscopes, sports, events calendar and information on consular services

Nevertheless, it was critically emphasized that the website was only partially updated with the latest news from the printed edition.

target group

Target group of the print output are well over 100,000 migrant workers ( English overseas Filipino worker , [SAW]) in Hong Kong, its demographic composition and its consumption has been called "well known" in the media data as.
