The felt rock flower ( Draba tomentosa ) is a representative of the rock flower ( Draba ) that only occurs in alpine locations .

description

The felt rock flower is a perennial herbaceous plant . It reaches heights of growth of 3 to 12 cm. The whole plant is hairy. The stems are densely covered with star hair. In addition to the basal leaves, there are a maximum of three stem leaves. The leaf margin is entire or has one or two teeth. Simple hairs sit on the base of the leaf, the tip to star hairs. The leaf surfaces of at least some leaves are hairy, the star hairs are then mostly heavily branched.

The petals are white and 3 to 5 mm long. Flowering time is June to August, pollination takes place by insects or self-pollination .

The pod fruit is 5 to 11 mm long, elliptical, rounded at both ends, densely hairy, with the eyelash and fork hairs predominating over the star hairs. The pen is intended for fruit mm long time from 0.2 to 0.5.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 16.

Occurrence

The felt rock flower grows in the Alps in crevices and in rock rubble over limestone in the alpine altitude . It occurs in Switzerland, Austria and Bavaria, among others. In the Allgäu it grows on sunny limestone cliffs, also in the pure dolomite and occurs at altitudes between 1,800 and 2,640 meters (on the Großer Krottenkopf in Tyrol).

In the system of plant sociology, it is a character species of the association Androsacetum helveticae from the association Potentillion caulescentis .
