Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings ( フ ァ イ ナ ル フ ァ ン タ ジ ー XII レ ヴ ァ ナ ン ト ・ ウ イ ン グ , Fainaru Fantajī Tuerubu Revananto Uingu ) is a real-time strategy game developed by Square Enix for the Nintendo DS . It is the successor to Final Fantasy XII for the PlayStation 2 . The game was released in Japan in April 2007 and in Europe in February 2008.

The action of the game begins a year after the events of Final Fantasy XII . The protagonist Vaan has meanwhile become an air pirate who owns his own airship and is accompanied by his girlfriend Penelo. Their “treasure hunter adventures” take them to the flying continent of Lemurés, where the story begins.

Gameplay

Revenant Wings is a real-time strategy game . The units as well as the heroes called “group leaders” can be moved and given orders via the control system, which can be completely controlled with the stylus. Different types of attack (close-range, long-range and air combat) and different elements (fire, water, earth, electrical and healing magic) must be weighed against each other in combat and used strategically. The heroes are supported by "Espers" summoned at special summoning portals. Like the heroes, these have a type of attack and an element and can be upgraded with "astral energy". During the course of the game, the protagonist regularly receives Auranithe. With these he can bind new, increasingly powerful Esper via the "ring of the pact", which can then be summoned during combat operations. However, due to the higher price, it is important to carefully weigh costs and effects.

Between combat missions, the hero can take on optional side missions on the world map and on his airship, talk to the other characters, buy and sell items and forge his own weapons.

action

The action begins a year after the events of Final Fantasy XII . Vaan has become an air pirate and is now looking for treasure. At the beginning he and Penelo visit Balthier and Fran in Bervenia. There they steal the treasure of Glabados and are forced to flee, with Vaan's airship being destroyed. But back in Rabanastre a mysterious ghost ship appears, which Vaan and his friends carry to the legendary heavenly continent Lemurés. But the idyll there is deceptive: The judge of the wings seeks to bring disaster to Lemurés and Ivalice.

music

Most of the music is still from Final Fantasy XII . Unlike Final Fantasy XII, the music is completely dynamic and context-sensitive. Each track has different versions, such as a peaceful version or a battle version, which are activated when the actions change.

reception

As of May 13, 2007, Revenant Wings had sold 421,000 units in Japan .
