Zitterpenningshagen boulder garden
The erratic boulder garden Zitterpenningshagen is an exhibition of boulders in the district of Vorpommern-Rügen .
location
The erratic boulder garden Zitterpenningshagen is located in the village of the same name Zitterpenningshagen , about 5 kilometers south of the Hanseatic city of Stralsund in the district of Vorpommern-Rügen. It was completed in 2006 after years of preparation. The garden can be reached via the B 96 , exit Teschenhagen and from Stralsund via Voigdehagen .
The garden
The erratic boulder garden houses around 32 erratic boulders of various sizes, which were transported here through the ice during the last ice age . The ice formed the landscape of what is now the North German lowlands and left numerous boulders behind when it retreated.
In the boulder garden itself there are numerous boards with explanations about the boulders. There are also boards that provide information about the gravel quarrying in the Zitterpenningshagen region and the history of the place itself. Another board lists the boulders that are in the garden, the stones themselves are numbered to make allocation easier.
The largest boulder is on a small rise in the middle of the boulder garden and weighs 18 tons. This specimen stands out from the other boulders and is made of granite .
Most of the rocks are granites , quartzites , amphibolites , limestones, and sandstones .
List of boulders in the erratic garden
The list is also on a board in the erratic garden. Since the stones are numbered, you can use this table to assign the stones. Not all stones can be proven in detail with the exact age. The age of the rocks is estimated by geologists.

Biotope
A biotope with a circular path connects to the erratic garden itself . Numerous plant species can be found there, and this biotope is also very rich in mushrooms. In the middle of the biotope there is a small pond, which has now become overgrown. Shortly after the boulder garden opened, an insect hotel was also set up there.
Initiators and participants
The foundlings garden was initiated by the graduate engineer Wolfgang Mamat and the Wendorf community . Numerous other companies were involved in the construction of the erratic garden. With the participation of the Niepar office, the boards were set up and paths made of gravel.
