The aim of the association is to maintain the Low German language and North German customs. The Speeldeel is divided into different groups:

  • Groot Finkwarder Speeldeel (core group) with approx. 40 active dancers and singers
  • Lütt Finkwarder Speeldeel (children's group) with approx. 50 active children and adolescents (up to 14 years)

  • Port muskanten with 5–7 musicians

history

The Finkenwerder local poets Gorch Fock and Hinrich Wriede called the Finkwarder Speeldeel into being in order to get their own platform for their folk plays. In 1906 it was decided to found the theater group on the Fischer ewer HF125 in Finkenwerder Kutterhafen .

The small stage was successful until 1914 - from 1909 also with folk dances. In 1914 Gorch Fock had to go to war , joined the Navy and in 1916 went down in the Skagerrak Battle with the small cruiser SMS "Wiesbaden" .

After the end of the First World War, theater was played under the direction of Hinrich Wriede until 1920. Hinrich Wriede left Finkenwerder in 1920; there was no successor for him. By Adolph Albershardt senior, schoolmaster at Finkenwerder, the Speeldeel was reawakened as a theater group and as a folk dance group in 1936 for the 700th anniversary celebration on Finkenwerder. For folk dance in Finkenwerder costume now folk songs were sung on stage.

After the Second World War , the group was very successful with their dances and songs and in 1953 for the first time on the NWDR (today: NDR ) on television, which was still young at the time .

Many appearances at events and from 1954 also international trips made the young dancers a very popular north German folklore group.

In 1956 the first festival of the nations was celebrated on Finkenwerder. Young dancers from many countries came to this. The newly founded Jung Speeldeel (today: Lütt Finkwarder Speeldeel ) was presented on this occasion.

After the death of Adolph Albershardt sen. in 1969 the management was taken over by his son Adolf "Adi" Albershardt. Adi made the boys and deerns in their traditional costumes the musical ambassadors of Hamburg. The Speeldeel delighted audiences with performances in Mexico , Tunisia , Australia , Brazil and China as well as in many European countries.

From 1975, in collaboration with the songwriter Rolf Zuckowski, new songs and records with new arrangements in “Plattdütsch” and “geel” (High German) were added. Since 1979 the Finkwarder Speeldeel has also been organizing successful Christmas concerts.

In 1981 the Oole Wach (former police station) on Finkenwerder was bought and used as a practice room, recording studio and office.

In 1996, after Adi Albershardt's death, his wife Christa took over the management and successfully continued to run Finkwarder Speeldeel until 2008. The current director is Carina Kaiser.

The 100th anniversary was celebrated from September 7th to 10th, 2006 with a festival on Finkenwerder.
